LITERACY: R IS FOR RAINBOW CRAFT

rainbow color activities for kids

SIMPLE HOW TO:

Cut 1 inch strips of red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple paper. Write a large R on a sheet of blank paper. Have your little cut paper squares from the rainbow strips then glue them on their letter R. Tadaa! Such a fun and simple color activity.

If you want t focus more on one color at a time why not made a cut paper letter craft for each color. For example Y is for Yellow, G is for Green, etc. Use only that color paper.

MATH: COLOR MATCH & COUNT

math color activities

SIMPLE HOW TO:

Draw various colored circles on a large sheet of paper (Our Favorite Large Paper Roll!). In each circle write a number. Set out a tray of rainbow colored supplies. I included a mix of counter types to offer choice (paper squares, dot stickers, magnetic letters, pom poms, dot markers). Ask your child to pick a circle, identify the number and color, then count that same color of objects to match.

Want to work on addition instead? The idea is the same just write an addition problem in each circle using just one color instead. Then have your child use the counters to represent the problem and tell how many in all.

FINE MOTOR: COLOR WORD PRE-WRITING LINES

preschool color activities

Write color words on a large sheet of paper. Next to each word draw a long pre-writing line (straight, zig-zag, curved). Give your child dot stickers, bingo daubers, or a marker. Have them read the color word and trace over each line from left to right with that same color.

SIMPLE HOW TO:

Add a layer of baking soda to the bottom of a tub or dish. Fill 2 squeeze bottles with a mixture of half vinegar and water. Add drops of food dye to each (one yellow, one blue). Squeeze the liquids over the baking soda. Watch the FIZZ appear and chat about what color blue and yellow make! This is such a fun color experiment and is sure to have your kids asking for more!

SENSORY: RAINBOW SHAVING CREAM PAINT

SIMPLE HOW TO:

Fill the holes of a cupcake pan with shaving cream. Add a drop of food dye to each hole and mix (rainbow colors). Set your child in the bath and give them a paintbrush. Have fun painting with rainbow shaving cream!

*If doing this activity at home I recommend sitting your littles in the bathtub or heading outside and inviting them to paint in a kiddie pool.
